A rigorous safeguarding audit of the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has assessed a 98 per cent compliance with the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards (NCSS) according to the audit report published by Australian Catholic Safeguarding Ltd (ACSL) today.

In October 2022, the Diocesan Trustees authorised a review of the Religious Education & Spirituality Team supporting schools, and the Diocesan Pastoral Ministries team. This review was conducted by Dr Dan White in 2023, with the report received and accepted by the Bishop in November 2023.

Synod of Bishops: 2024 Diocesan Consultation
At the end of last year, the General Secretariat of the Synod published a document Towards October 2024 containing guidelines for local church consultations to be held in 2024 to reflect on the Synthesis Report from the First Assembly and prepare for the Second Assembly. The plans for the Australian consultation have now been finalised and they are outlined in this email. All bishops have been notified, and dioceses have been requested to begin planning these consultations, which will take place from 1 February to 30 March 2024.
