Maitland-Newcastle was represented in Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is proud to announce that our Vice Chancellor  Administration, Sean Scanlon, was a baton bearer for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay this past Saturday.

Sean was nominated by peers for his achievements and enormous contribution to Athletics in New South Wales. Sean was previously the President of Athletics NSW for five years and his efforts led to a dramatic improvement in participation numbers in athletics in NSW from 4,900 people to around 15,000. He also secured $800,000 for the redevelopment of Newcastle Athletics and managed that project.

Sean carried the Baton on day 40 of the Relay in Australia – on Saturday 3rd February 2018.

The details are as follows:

  • baton bearer number: 024 of 28
  • anticipated segment start time: 08:46
  • the approximate start location: Memorial Dr, 2 Fenton Ave, The Hill NSW 2300, Australia (adjacent to The Hill sign)
  • the approximate end location: 62-64 Memorial Dr, Bar Beach NSW 2300, Australia

We want to thank everyone who came out to support Sean by joining others from across the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle at either the start or end location of the relay.
