RAY COLLINS: Three significant events
Over the last few days there have been three significant events that have shone a direct focus on education, particularly Catholic education, and although they celebrated the rich history of Catholic education in our diocese they also served to highlight the exciting future of education in our diocese and across Australia.
TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: Celebrating the journey of 150 years
When I came to the Diocese in 2005 there was one person employed in the area of Communications across the diocese and its agencies. I am amazed how much change has occurred in this space in that 11 years.
RAY COLLINS: National Science and Engineering Challenge Champions 2016
In 2004, the University of Newcastle introduced a competition entitled the Science and Engineering Challenge which was largely contested by schools in the Hunter region.
TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: Helping churches be more vital and healthy
I am scribing this message on a Saturday afternoon, just after the Diocesan Pastoral Council Meeting. The core content of this meeting was to review the outcomes of our ‘around the diocese’ DPC meetings. The DPC found today’s meeting to be productive, and we will now work on the core ideas of our conversation before communicating with our parishes, Councils and agencies.
RAY COLLINS: Accepting a new reality
On four occasions during the year a lunch, organised by the Diocese of Maitland Newcastle’s Association of Catholic Professionals, is held to enable people working in a range of professions to engage with issues that impact on the Church.
RAY COLLINS: A significant HSC
This Thursday, 13th October, will be a significant date in the lives of our Year 12 students across the diocese as the Higher School Certificate examinations commence.
Stopping the Boats Part II: A Threat to the Architecture of Protection
The war in Syria continues with no end in sight. For six years, Syrians have lived under a black cloud of misery and death. The number of refugees produced by this conflict is staggering: over 4.8 million people have managed to escape the horror and violence of the civil war.
