A NAIDOC Week celebration was held at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Sunday. This year’s theme − ‘Our Languages Matter’ – highlighted the essential role that Indigenous languages play in our cultural identity.
Message for Sea Sunday 2017
In our daily lives, we are surrounded by and use many objects and products that at some stage of their journey towards us have being transported on vessels. It is difficult for us to imagine, behind these objects, the faces of the many seafarers who have secured a smooth sailing for the vessel to deliver safely these commodities in the port.
Coming together for youth employment
On Thursday 29 June the Diocesan Social Justice Council led the Hunter Youth Future: Employment Forum at the Factory Theatre, St Pius X Adamstown. Attended by many locals keen to learn and discuss this important issue, the forum featured three key speakers including The Hon John Barilaro, Dr Anthea Bill and Mr Rod Murphy.
Welcoming a new deacon to the diocese
On Wednesday 14 June 2017, I was one of twelve men ordained a deacon by Bishop Seamus Cunningham, in the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome. We are all students of the Pontifical Beda College, an international seminary for ‘late’ vocations to the priesthood.
Dialogue in the secular age
Added to my ‘to do’ list after listening to Rev Dr James McEvoy speak in Raymond Terrace recently was “Read Gaudium et Spes”. This is one of the documents of the Second Vatican Council, properly titled Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World (1965).
