Diocesan Primary Touch Football news

Congratulations to the primary students across the diocese for their excellent efforts at Diocesan Touch Trials and the NSWPSSA Touch Championships. Read more below!

Diocesan Primary Touch Trials

This year’s primary Diocesan Touch Trials were full of promising talent with strong boys’ and girls’ teams selected. They headed to Tamworth for the Polding Trials where they played against the other five Diocesan teams. The level of skill on display was high with players throwing long balls, scooping, stepping and scoring quality tries. The boys remained undefeated in all their games, and the girls only had one loss to a strong Bathurst team where they went down by 2.

Coaches Zoe Parish and Ben McCarthy were proud of all of the players as they showed great teamwork, were respectful to coaches and referees, listened carefully to advice, and had an amazing attitude throughout the day, always showing positivity and really enjoying their games of touch.

Special congratulations go to the players who were successful in selection for the Polding Team:

Brodee Sunerton – Holy Spirit, Kurri Kurri

Ivy Hagan – St Joseph's, Denman

Nate Horsey – St Brigid’s, Raymond Terrace

Jake Hedges – St Patrick’s, Lochinvar

Rory Kelly - Holy Spirit, Kurri Kurri

Tyson Williams – St Catherine’s, Singleton

Seth Greenup – St Patrick’s, Cessnock

NSWPSSA Touch Championships

The NSWPSSA Touch was held at Tuggerah. The Polding boys team finished 8th overall. Over the five-day competition, Nate Horsey demonstrated his elite skills, his creativeness in attack, and his ability to break down the defence with evasive footwork, speed and sleight of hand with the ball.

Nate was the only boy from the Polding team selected to the NSWPSSA team.

The Polding girls team was incredibly strong from the start beating North West, Sydney East, North Coast, Hunter, Riverina, Western and Sydney West. They defeated the Hunter team in the semi-finals and went on to meet their catholic counterpart, MacKillop, in the final, who they had a draw with within the rounds. Polding was too strong this time, winning 2-0. During the tournament, Ivy Hagan was a standout player and was rewarded with a place on the NSWPSSA team.
