St Michael's students captivate audience with Christmas Toy Story musical

St Michael’s Primary School, Nelson Bay, was beaming with Christmas spirit last week when students performed their end of year play, entitled 'Christmas Toy Story'.

All 300 students were involved in the play - from dancing and singing to acting and back-stage support.

Principal Helen Bourne, was immensely impressed with the enthusiasm displayed by all students.

“I am so proud of all the students and their involvement in our Christmas Toy Story because it portrayed the true meaning of Christmas in such a special way. The staff and students should be very proud of their efforts,” Mrs Bourne said.

A Christmas Toy Story is a musical play which captivates audiences with its storyline that includes a group of toys which comes to life during the early hours of Christmas morning. As the toys begin to embark on mischief, the Christmas angel enlightens them all about the origins of Christmas. In doing so, the toys change form thinking about their own self-importance to instead appreciating the value of giving and sharing – in keeping with the true spirit of Christmas.

“I thought the play was amazing - and the story explained the true meaning of Christmas and Jesus’ birth. It moved the audience into remembering the wonderful life of Christ,” said Year 5 student, Rose Diemar.

The play was well attended by families and friends of students at the school, including special guest, Bishop Elect for Wollongong, Fr Brian Mascord.

Fr Brian Mascord is currently the Vicar General of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, who was recently appointed as the fifth Bishop of Wollongong.

Fr Mascord, who was the local priest in Nelson Bay for over five years, was greeted with many smiling and familiar faces on the day.

He said he was enthralled by the play and stated attending the performance was particularly important to him as the visit was one of his last official duties as Vicar-General in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
