This past Sunday (32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time) we began Chapter 25 of Matthew’s Gospel, to be read over the two weeks, as we bring to closure the Year of Matthew. Chapter 25 is an invitation for us to think about our mortality and to seek God’s Kingdom, not only now, but for eternal life. This week’s Gospel message is about keeping our lamps burning with the spiritual nourishment of Jesus Christ.

This week we welcome the month of November, beginning with the Feast of All Saints, followed by the Feast of All Souls. This period invites us to think about our connection to the Communion of Saints, both living and dead. By God’s grace, we are daily in the presence of saints who care for us, who like the reading from Sunday’s Gospel (Matthew 22:34-40), “Love the Lord their God with all their heart, with all their soul, and with all their mind.” Followed by “Loving their neighbour as themselves.”
