Book Week story time!

This morning a child brought in a story book from home. She was so excited she came running into the room, book in hand, to show her educators! We then gathered the children to the mat for a group time before morning tea so one of our educators could read the story to the children.

The story is called What the Ladybird Heard and is about a farm which has a fine prize cow. Two men come along, Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len, with a cunning plan to steal the farmer’s fine prize cow! The ladybird hears the cunning plan and tells all the other farm animals. The ladybird then has a plan which tricks Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len so they can’t steal the cow. The children sat beautifully to listen to the story and the educator involved the children by asking them what sound the farm animals make. This made the story book more interesting to the children and held their engagement. They liked making the sounds very loudly and became excited when the educator asked them to make a new noise. Most of the children used their verbal communication skills to shout out what farm animal they could see!
