'Song of the Fish' is the latest installation at Singleton's Arts & Cultural Centre, featuring the talents of the Year 7 students from St Catherine's Catholic College, Singleton.

The installation explores and celebrates the importance of the Coquin River (Hunter River) for the local First Nations Peoples. The project has connected aspects right across the school community, which has actively and authentically engaged students in their learning.

Students involved in the work were keen to talk about the exhibition at the opening, describing how they would walk down to the Hunter River, and learn about endangered native species, including the fish. Through this project, Year 7 students were able to explore how art can be a response to environmental concerns and form the beginnings of a solution.

St Catherine's teacher, Alana Partridge, said the opening night was a wonderful success especially for the students involved in the event and the art works.

"It was lovely to see our student's artistic abilities recognised and celebrated," she said.

"I hope the community can come along and see what they have achieved."

The exhibition will be on display at the Centre until November 3.
