St Pius X High School, Adamstown took out the junior boys competition narrowly defeating St Joseph’s College, Lochinvar. St Pius X also won the intermediate girls, defeating St Paul’s Catholic College, Booragul.

All Saints’ College, Maitland had a close final in the junior girls event, beating St Pius X.

In the intermediate boys division St Mary’s Catholic College, Gateshead proved to be too strong for St Pius.

The winning teams will now head to Sydney to play in the NSWCCC Championships.

In other recent sporting news, All Saints’ College continued their history of being a dominating force in rugby league by winning the NSWCCC Catholic Cup. The team defeated Patrician Brothers’ College, Blacktown in the final with a convincing scoreline of 14 to 0.

All Saints’ College also took out the semi-final of the NRL Schoolboy Cup to Blacktown, 22 to 14.

To further prove our regions strength in league, two students from the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle have been named in the Australian Schoolboys side - Jock Madden from All Saints’ College and Jonah Pezet from St Mary’s Gateshead.

Hannah Chicken from St Joseph’s Primary School, Taree has shown she is an outstanding all-rounder in sport. Named in the NSW PSSA sides for basketball and netball, Hannah is also a talented athlete who represented the NSW Polding Catholic side at the recent NSW PSSA Touch Championships and has been named in the State team.

The Polding team had six wins, four draws and two losses at the recent NSW PSSA Touch Tournament. The team played a thrilling game against Sydney West in the semi-final, with Hannah Chicken scoring a try to even up the score. The game went into drop-off with Sydney West unfortunately scoring first.
