Sporting success

The sporting talents of students from across the Diocese has been on full display in recent weeks, as teams in netball and futsal took out championships at regional and state level.

Netball

In netball, the NSW Polding team placed equal first with the Hunter side at the recent NSW PSSA Netball Championship held at Homebush.

Beating teams from across the state, Eve Keeling (St Columba’s, Adamstown), Hannah Chicken (St Joseph’s, Taree), Scarlette Hynes (St Paul’s, Gateshead) and Hope White (St John the Baptist, Maitland) played with great skill to bring their team to victory.

Both Hannah and Hope have also been selected for the NSW PSSA team which will compete at the School Sport Australia event in Darwin.

Hope was team captain on the day and was also named players player of the Championship.

Futsal

In futsal, five teams from St Clare's High School, Taree, recently competed at the regional Futsal Tournament against schools from the Manning area, Great Lakes, Bulahdelah and Gloucester.

All teams enjoyed themselves and played well throughout the day. The under 13’s and under 19’s boys showed a high level of skill and were undefeated throughout the round games, qualifying for the final.

They won the grand final against Taree High School and Manning Valley Anglican College respectively to become Manning Regional champions for 2018.

The under 16’s girls were a team of novice players who improved tremendously throughout the day. As the day progressed, they grew in confidence, became stronger and continued their success, losing only one game. They won their semi-final defeating an under 19’s team on their way to the grand final, to become Manning Regional Champions defeating Taree High School.

All teams now progress to play in the NSW Champion of Champions tournament in Port Macquarie from 13 to 16 August. Congratulations to all the players.
