Students came to school dressed in the colours of the Australian Aboriginal flag - red, black and yellow and began the day with NAIDOC themed classroom activities. Students shared in arts and crafts, hip hop dance and Dreamtime stories. It was also great to see Mrs Townsend back to help with the celebrations.
A beautiful Liturgy continued celebrations which was then followed by a barbecue and an assembly with performances by the GLC Boys Aboriginal Dance group and stories by elder Aunty Lyn Davis who shared her wisdom with the students. The assembly concluded with the awarding of competition prizes. Congratulations went to 2W and 3P for winning the annual 'Deadly Door' competition and to a student from each class as the individual winners of the colouring competition. All winners received a Dreamtime story book prize.
Students and teachers from the Little Beaver Preschool also shared in the celebrations, with the children getting the chance to see what it will be like to transition to 'big school' next year.
Thank you to everyone who came along, it was wonderful day to celebrate the history, culture and contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and society.
