What is a Jubilee? In the tradition of the Church, life has an age-old rhythm. It begins with the story of creation and the rich theology of Sabbath found in the Book of Genesis. After all the work creating the world, “God rests” (Genesis 2:3). Well-known Catholic priest and writer Ronald Rolheiser describes this as the first sabbatical. Sabbath, he tells us, means seventh day.
The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle celebrates Catholic Schools Week from 1 March to 6 March. This marked a time of celebration and joy for the lives and learning of 20,000 young people enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 12 across 58 Catholic schools. Maitland-Newcastle is the fourth-largest Diocese in NSW.
Marking four years since the inception of the role of Education Officer, Formation for Mission, 2018 has seen a number of achievements in Faith Formation across the Diocese.
