After the new student leaders of St Joseph’s Primary School, Denman were given their badges during the morning assembly, the school opened its classrooms to families so that students could showcase what they’ve been learning in class so far this year.

At St Pius X High School, Adamstown the school celebrated Ash Wednesday, Catholic Schools Week and the launch of Project Compassion with a liturgy. During the liturgy students were encouraged to give something up and take something up during the time of Lent.

St Pius X also announced their Project Compassion fundraiser for this year, Caritas K’s. This year’s fundraising efforts are inspired by the story of a 2-year-old Thandolwayo who would walk seven kilometres each day to collect water for her family, which was often contaminated and would make them sick.

Through the support of Caritas Australia, her village received a system which allows for the supply of clean water. St Pius X will be holding a three-kilometre Challenge Walk in April around the school grounds. Students will be encouraged to seek sponsorship from friends and family in the lead up to the event to help raise money for Caritas to build more clean water systems.

There were more open classrooms, Ash Wednesday celebrations and picnic lunches at St Mary’s Primary School, Warners Bay, St Joseph’s Primary School, Charlestown and St Patrick’s Primary School, Wallsend, where families also had the chance to experience the new synthetic turf bottom playground.

BELONG

The celebrations continued in the Upper Hunter, with St Joseph’s High School, Aberdeen and St James’ Primary School, Muswellbrook celebrating Ash Wednesday and also acknowledging the importance of their local community by holding a community barbecue.
