The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle will today lodge a development application with Newcastle City Council for the redevelopment of the former Empire Hotel site in Newcastle West. Following an agreement with the Hunter Development Corporation and subject to approval by Newcastle City Council, the Diocese plans to build affordable housing on the site, allowing more people greater access to live in the Newcastle CBD.
