For the second consecutive year, NSW has had the lowest rate of children and young people admitted to "out of home care” in the country. These encouraging results were announced recently by the Secretary of the NSW Department of Community Services, Michael Coutts-Trotter and based on data provided by the NSW Productivity Commission

The Refugee Hub is a place of welcome for both the newly arrived in Newcastle as well as to those who have been in Australia for some years. We aim to “walk the path” with the newly arrived, empower them, teach them and give them a pathway to independence.

Friends of mine are foster carers, albeit not with CatholicCare, and I happened to be at their home recently for dinner. I have known this wonderful couple and the extended family for around ten years. They are community-minded people who do all they can to assist those in need.

Over the past six months or so I have had immediate or distant contact with members of our community who fit into the ‘Seniors’ category, that is, those who are over 60 years old. My contact with these wonderful and wise older people has come because they have been touched by some form of adversity in their lives.
