Reflections
Bishop Bill took great honour in carrying out face-to-face ministry. His storytelling abilities and capacity to meet people where they were at in life, often left lasting impressions on those he crossed paths with. Below are a collection of reflections from people in the Diocesan community, who were moved to share fond memories of the bishop.
It's the giving, not the gifts
As we approach Christmas, Aurora asked people in our community ‘what does Christmas mean to you?’ These are their reflections.
Purple rain
I have fond memories of growing up and attending St Brigid’s Primary School at Raymond Terrace. At the end of every school year, we would attend swimming lessons. I remember the songs we sang on the bus as we pulled up at the purple-coated roadway of Jacaranda Avenue at the local pool. It was this time of the year we had all been waiting for.
Solomon's journey
He is only 30 years of age, yet on Saturday 4 December at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Singleton, Bishop Brian Mascord ordained Solomon Okovido as a transitional deacon.
Strong start for Upper Hunter education and care
The NSW State Government has been under pressure from industry of late to undertake an aggressive resumption of immigration levels to bolster the nationwide skills shortage that has resulted from Australia’s border closures.
Aurora is changing
Earlier this year, the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle surveyed readers to find out what they value about Aurora and how they like to receive news. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.
Care for the carers
As humans, we are inherently social beings. We are born to connect with and care for others.
The great divide
The idea that supporting euthanasia is progressive, and opposing it is conservative, is obsolete. In fact, any thoughtful progressive should be worried about where the rush towards voluntary assisted dying (VAD) is taking us.
