This not only significantly diminishes the quality of their daily life but also their future.
Caritas Australia is hoping to inspire women to come together to fight this injustice and to help end poverty. This by establishing a fundraising event - Women for the World - for you to hold in September.
This event can be held in any way that you would like, whether it be within your home, the workplace or school, and it can be in the form of a morning tea, movie night, or dinner party with friends.
All fundraising efforts “will help empower more women around the world and bring about positive change for marginalised communities everywhere.”
Funds raised will go to Caritas Australia, the international aid and development agency of the Catholic Church.
Caritas Australia works in multiple countries throughout Asia, Africa and the Pacific and aims to empower communities and eradicate poverty.
Dr Michelle Fernon, a Caritas Australia supporter and a driving force behind Women for the World, says that it’s vital that action is taken.
“Women are the backbone of their families, workplaces and communities.
“They are also subject to systemic discrimination that denies their chance to fulfil their potential and contribute fully to their societies. Yet we know that when we help a woman, her family and her community also benefit.
“One of the most important things about hosting a ‘Women for the World’ event is to have fun. Choose something that you like to do; for me that’s catching up with friends that I don’t see nearly enough.”
How your donations will help:
Last year, thanks to many generous donations, Caritas Australia was able to assist two million people directly through their emergency and development programs.
