DR MICHAEL SLATTERY: Fathers Day

A very Happy Fathers Day to all the dads of the students in our diocesan schools.

Dr Michael Slattery September 04, 2017

Parenting is not always easy with competing demands upon parents when raising children.

Mothers and fathers are not given the keys to good parenting and emulate the skills they recall from those own upbringing. Often a father will model the behaviours they learned from their father or a significant male in their lives.

But some fathers have had to learn the craft of fatherhood on their own as they did not have a significant male role model in their lives.

Fathers and mothers in the 21st century share parenting duties and often juggle huge workloads and commitments to their children. Modern society demands much of its parents and often the pressure on them creates much stress.
We pray that on Fathers Day all fathers continue to love their families and their children. That they play an active part in the moral and ethical upbringing of the children and take an an interest in their schooling.

Children grow up so quickly and their years at school seem to fly by before we know it.

May this Fathers Day be a joyous one and support the great work and love that dads do with their children.
