Speak up for the Australia you want

Right now the Government is writing a long term plan for Australia’s foreign policy; and you have the chance to have your say. With our world facing the challenges of conflict, forced migration, climate and poverty, Australia can and must do more to be a better global citizen. But it’s up to us.

Nicole Clements February 03, 2017

The need to work together to address shared global challenges has never been more urgent - the world is facing multiple challenges of poverty, conflict, forced migration and climate change.  Yet the White Paper is likely to emphasise self-interest.  If we want a better vision, and to see Australia becoming a global leader on issues like climate change, refugees and ending poverty, it’s up to us to lead the way. Together, we can inspire thousands of globally minded Australians to make submissions for a more sustainable, welcoming, and compassionate country.

By inspiring thousands of globally minded submissions, we have a chance to influence Australia’s place in the world for years to come, and if the Government doesn’t listen to us, we will develop “The People’s White Paper” based on the public submissions generated. We’ll launch it on the same day as the Government launches theirs (mid-2017).

It’s critical that the Government listens to all Australians about the kind of world we want to live in and the role Australia should have in making that vision a reality. If we want Australia to become a global leader on issues like climate change, people seeking asylum and ending poverty, it’s up to us to lead the way. Together, we can inspire thousands of globally minded Australians to make submissions for a more sustainable, welcoming and compassionate country.

The 'Up to us' campaign launched on 1 February and concludes 27 February. Please take action at the Up to us website.

In contrast to the invite-only forums the Government is organising, there will be ‘Up To Us’ public events in NSW, VIC and QLD, to provide everyday Australians with a chance to share a meal together with supporters and have conversations about our vision for Australia’s place in the world. Everyone is warmly welcome.
