St Patrick’s Primary School in Swansea was abuzz on Friday, as the school community celebrated its 70th anniversary.
Festivities commenced with a school liturgy, which was followed by a BBQ lunch, concert and games. Students and staff, past and present, as well as their families were all in attendance.
School principal, Lucy Harvey said that each class took on a different decade and, dressed in period clothing, shared accounts on milestones that occurred at the school during that time.
“Schools are made from history and we’re very proud of being a Catholic community and our roots being with the Sisters of St Joseph. I think it’s important to acknowledge the foundations that have come before us- when you do this, you can then build on them.”
The Sisters of St Joseph opened the school on what is now the McDonald’s site in January 1972. The school was relocated to its current site in 1977.
