Rugby 10s

The St Catherine’s boys’ Rugby 10s team travelled to St Joseph's College in Hunters Hill recently to compete in the state finals of the Chris Gangemi Shield.

The boys dominated their pool matches, winning all three games. They defeated Forbes 19-17, Terrigal 12-7 and Nowra 39-0.

This saw the boys reach the top of their pool and qualify for the semi-finals. In an incredibly close match, the boys went down by just two points to the eventual tournament winners, Lismore.

The team comfortably won third place at the play-off game in an outstanding effort.

AFL

While the boys were tackling the state finals, the St Catherine’s girls' AFL team were taking on state finals of their own at Giants Stadium in Homebush.

The girls won all three of their pool games easily, with scores of 22-0, 19-6 and 27-1. They were also victorious in their match against Trinity College in Albury in the semi-final, winning 13-8. The girls’ team met the reigning champions in the final.

The girls were determined and dominating in the final game, kicking the first goal against Lindsay Park. It wasn’t soon after that the opposition fought back resulting in 12-6 at half time.

With only 3 minutes until the end of the game, the team were down 12-13, until champion Ella McLeod took a mark 30m out from the goal, composed herself and kicked the winning goal. The girls successfully scored 19-13 taking out the state championship title.

Outstanding contributions from every single member of the team helped us get the job done. Throughout the whole tournament, the team scored 407 points and only conceded 35!

Congratulations to all students!
