St Paul’s Rutherford Mini Vinnies help others in need

It has been a great year for the St Paul’s Primary School, Rutherford Mini Vinnies group which conducted a range of activities in 2018.

Students volunteered throughout 2018 to help missions overseas as well as local charities with between 20 and 30 students volunteering to be a part of the Mini Vinnies group which was established in 2015 as part of Year 6 leadership and commitment.

The group aims to make a meaningful difference to the community.

During 2018, the group ran a number of fundraising events including a Vinnies Sleep out, Socktober, Pyjama day for the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal and Coins for Caritas with out-of-uniform days.

Members of the group also visited the local nursing homes during the year to play Bingo and indoor bowls with the residents.

During the Christmas season the Vinnies team made cards and wrote poetry which they hand delivered to both Opal Nursing homes. To further spread the Christmas cheer, they also sang carols with the residents.

Colleen Canny, the local St Vincent de Paul connection, selflessly gives a lot of her time to support the students in these ventures of love and kindness. She is extremely proud of the way the students share their gifts to bring joy and happiness to others in our community.

St Paul’s community is also proud of the Christmas cheer these students have spread.
