The colours of blue and red filled the grounds of St Pius X High School, Adamstown, recently as students from St Dominic’s Centre, Mayfield, enjoyed their inaugural Athletics Carnival.
Staff from St Dominic’s worked closely with staff from the PDHPE faculty and Year 10 PASS students in the lead up to the day to design a disability-friendly event for St Dom’s students.
Students from Kindergarten to Year 10 arrived dressed in their team colours – red and blue - and started the day with some enthusiastic cheers for their teams, Hogan and Molloy.
The Year 10 students led the St Dom’s students through a number of events including a 50 metre race, long jump, shot put and javelin.
The day finished with a fiercely competitive tug o’ war and Ninja Warrior course where four team members represented their respective teams through an obstacle course that tested their speed, agility and strength.
The aim of the day was to give the St Dom’s students the opportunity to shine and realise their potential in a safe and supportive environment. It was a day designed and delivered just for them and it created a beautiful connectedness within our community and also with the community of St Pius X.
All involved are already excited about doing it all again in 2018!
