Students from Years 5 and 6 invited their parents into their classrooms to show them how a 21st century classroom operates. The classroom was designed by teacher Susan Lacey with the idea to empower the students, allowing them to set rules for each area within the room. Parents learned about the education cave, campfire and billabong and how each area is utilised within the classroom.
Teacher, Mrs Lisa York said, “Our students are thriving in this motivating environment. The classroom allows for a variety of learning styles using flexible furniture arrangements and the integrated use of technology. The students enjoy the independence and flexibility within the classroom, creating a comfortable learning environment.
“This style of education encourages independence and creativity, allowing students to fully engage with the lesson. Students enjoy collaborating, problem solving and supporting one another in their learning. We have been pleased with the way our students have embraced the new environment.”
With the guidance of their teachers, Year 5 and 6 students were able to share their creative learning space with their parents in celebration for Catholic Schools Week.
