On Wednesday 21 September, Year 5 students from St Joseph’s Primary School, East Maitland, held a Geography Fair that celebrated their learning and exploration throughout the term.
At the beginning of Term 3, each student drew a flag out of a hat in order to select a country to research. At the end of the 10 weeks, students put together a display representing their assigned country to present at an end of Term fair where families, teachers and students gathered for an evening of world exploration and a sausage sizzle.
The students presented fantastic displays and were very creative in their efforts exploring the culture, resources and economy of 56 countries. Everyone enjoyed learning about the countries in an engaging manner with some displays even showcasing culinary delights of hummus, Jamaican juice and Turkish delights.
It was a wonderful event that we hope will be the first of many annual fairs. We came together as a community and celebrated the students’ hard work and their enthusiasm for learning about diverse cultures.
