On June 28, 36 children were baptised into the parish community. With continuing support from their families and the St Pius’ teachers, the children expressed a yearning to become full members of the church. 25 students were eligible, and a committed team set about making the children’s dreams become a reality.
Thursday September 1 was chosen as an appropriate day as it coincides with a new season, spring, and calls to mind the new life and growth, the hope and change that will characterise this time of prayer and new life. This for the 25 children is the season of initiation into the grace-life of the Church when we are all invited to start afresh.
Vicar General Fr Brian Mascord presided at the liturgy. He possesses a special gift for engaging with the children and speaking in a way that not only highlights the importance of the occasion but invites them to always remember that they are now full members of the Body of Christ. He also reminds the parents that they are the first educators of their children and today marked the beginning of a new journey for families as members of the faith community.
The occasion was also special for parish members of the Windale community who joined with the children following the ceremony for refreshments and to welcome them.
One sad aspect of the ceremony was the absence of Sr Norah who sadly passed away two weeks ago. Sr Norah was enormously proud at the June baptisms and had longed for the children to receive the remaining sacraments of initiation. However her sister, Sr Cecelia, joined in the occasion and everyone present knew that Sr Norah was looking over us all.
Staff and supporters of St Pius X Windale were today rewarded for their dedication in providing the children with an opportunity to be a part of a special community.
