Harmony Day, held on March 21, is a government supported initiative with education at its core. Schools across the Hunter, such as All Saint’s College St Peter’s, held special events to promote the idea that every person belongs.
St Peter’s SRC served special food and held origami, Indonesian mask painting, yoga and Aboriginal art classes among other activities.
Year eight student Jaqaiar Liufalani performed music from her native island-nation of Niue.
“I thought I’d be hesitant,” she said.
“But I was really proud to live in a society where I can be accepted.”
